What is PMP® Certification ?

Project Management Professional (PMP®) is an internationally recognized professional designation offered by the non-profit Project Management Institute (PMI). As of 2019 there are more than 900,000 active PMP® certified project managers worldwide. Companies recruit project managers from various cultural and technical backgrounds, so the need for a standardized set of skills is increasing every day. Project managers are expected to undertake complex projects and turn management’s strategic vision into tangible goals to ensure effective outcomes, while balancing project challenges and constraints. As a consequence PMP certification is fast becoming a mandatory requirement for project managers in many organizations.

The Impact of PMP Certification on Salary

In the USA, the average project management professional without a PMP certification makes $99,000 per year. With a PMP certification, the average project manager salary goes up to more than $119,000, an increase of more than 20% over a non PMI-certified project manager. Now more than ever, a PMP certification is critical for project managers who want to earn more. Your investment in time and money in this valuable credential will pay tenfold in the first few years of your certification.

Use PMP Certification to Change Career Path

If you’ve been working in the same technical job for the last 5-10 years and you want to make the move to management then Project Management Professional (PMP) certification might be the fastest way to achieve that goal. Project management is a highly transferable skill, so it’s common to find technical engineers use it as a platform to higher management, or even project managers switching to other industries after spending some time working in one specific area. You also might need a new challenge. Moving from one industry to another is a great way to gain experience and exposure to other ways of working, new products, and other environments.

WEEK 2 to WEEK 9

Start your training: Watch the videos chapter by chapter. Each chapter covers a specific knowledge area of the PMBOK Guide. At the end of each chapter try the chapter tests to make sure you understood the concepts before moving on to the next chapter.

WEEK 7 to WEEK 9

If you purchased our Platinum package download the PDF files that you received as part of the PMP Formulas Guide. Learn the math behind each formula and try the 105 formula-based questions that we provide.

WEEK 10 to WEEK 12

Now that you have gone through all chapters and taken all the chapter tests it’s time to try the exam simulations. Set some time aside to try them in an exam environment. Try at least 5 of the 8 exams that we provide, and continue until you score above 75% on two consecutive exams.

DAY 90

You are now ready to pass the PMP Exam. You should have already registered. Just book your exam within 5 days of your last exam simulation and go there with confidence.

The average cycle for preparing for the PMP exam is 12 weeks.  You will receive a detailed Study Plan for your PMP exam preparation, but here is a high-level step-by-step strategic plan that you can expect with our training materials. Setting aside the proper amount of time for studying for the PMP Certification Exam is extremely important. Knowing how many hours you should be devoting to your studies will allow you to better focus your efforts and to be less likely to waste your valuable time. If you work full-time and have family obligations you have a limited number of hours, then you have to maximize the most out of them. A good Study Plan can help you achieve that goal. As part of our PMP training packages you will receive an Excel Study Plan and an MS Project Gantt Chart with all the activities that you have to include in your schedule.

PMP Application Process

Register for PMI Annual Membership

The first step is to register to become a member of the Project Management Institute (PMI). The membership costs $139 but it saves you more on exam fees. The standard non-member fee to take the exam is $555 while PMI members pay  $405, so $150 less for members.

Find a good PMP Course to get your 35 hours of project management education. Needless to say that all our PMP training packages fulfill that requirement.

Start Your PMI Application

Start your PMI application online. Even though you don’t have to rush this step, you have to start preparing for it as early as possible. If you go with our packages we will guide you with this as part of our PMP coaching activities.

If You Get Audited

There’s a 10% chance that your application might get audited. The audit process is a completely random one. If your application is selected PMI will ask you to provide various types of proof about your education, experience, and training.

Finish Your PMP Training

Once you finish your PM Training, finish your PMI application. Once approved you will receive an invitation to pay for and schedule your PMP certification exam. You have one year to take the PMP exam after your application has been approved.

Schedule Your Exam

After making your payment you will schedule your exam with Prometric website. Prometric have test centers across the world in many large cities. You may take the exam up to 3 times during the eligibility period.

Pass the Exam

Take the 4h exam.

Steps To Prepare for the PMP Certification Exam

  • Read the PMP Handbook first. You can download it on the PMI website.
  • Review the current PMBOK Guide content at least once.
  • Take a formal project management training focused on the latest PMBOK Guide content.
  • Take Exam Simulations to prepare yourself for the 4h Exam.
  • Work on your weak points and do the iterations until you score at least 75% on 2 consecutive exam simulations.

Passing the PMP Exam on the First Try

Did you now that 2 out of 5 candidates fail the PMP Exam on their first attempt ? In order to succeed on your first trial you need to break down the PMBOK chapters into a Study Plan. Focus on the key points to ensure that the main concepts consolidate in your mind. A 3-month training will allow the material to “stick”  instead of being just a short-term memory like on Bootcamps. The PMBOK Guide has a lot of content, but it is somewhat “dry”. Learning with a fun video-based PMP training program will make the content of the PMBOK Guide come to life.
